I had someone pay for an auction through PayDirect yesterday and I transferred the money right away because it seems it is taking longer and longer to get the money in my checking account.

When I checked my PD account (really looking for 100.00) it says "fund pending." Can I go ahead and ship or is there a problem with Yahoo getting the money from my bidder? I don't remember seeing this before.

I just updated my payment ratings page based on info posted on the yahoo board. It seems that some yahoo buyers have discovered the joys of paying with paydirect and then charging it back, claiming it wasn't authorized. Even when the same buyer does this multiple times, paydirect takes no action and does not suspend the account, they just make the seller pay for it. I predict that unless paydirect realizes they need real customer service (something Yahoo hasn't realized in years), it's only a matter of time before all the scammers discover the joys of getting free stuff through paydirect.

This has me concerned now. The person's ID and e-mail address on the auction and the person who paid through PD have a completely different name and e-mail.

I'm not really sure how to handle this and hesitate to send this item out.

I don't think I'd ship anything on "pending". I also think it might be a good idea to start asking that buyer some questions, explaining to him that you have to ship to the address that the credit card is billed to. There is no rush, Christmas or not. Security comes first.

Interesting link, but the value of their opinion, as any opinion, is based on who they are and I see little to no information on the page that gives me any feeling of professionalism - seems more like someone's opinion page -

Just my opinion

I am not a fan of PayDirect - but we get so VERY few customer's using it - that I think I'll let it stand for the moment -

We have never had a problem with PayPal, regardless of the inferences regarding it on the link above.

Contrary to the opinion of someone else on this thread. I think what your doing is a good thing. Letting others know about the potential problems of using these services.

No, they are not going to happen to everyone, maybe, only a small percentage of the user base, but the problems do exist and sellers/buyers should know what can go wrong so they can take steps to prevent it...

If you stick your head in the sand and think you are safe, your butt makes a tempting target for scammers...

outoftheblue: thanks for that. Some folks have written to me that I have some sort of agenda, that I work for one of the companies I recommended, etc. Just to clarify, I don't work for any payment service. A while ago I recommended Paypal and was accused of being a paypal employee. Later I recommended Exchangepath based on info they gave me when I called which I later found to be untrue. I guess I might have an agenda and that is:

1) to warn folks who accept things posted on a web site at face value. The folks who believed such claims as "always free," "we will never access your bank account without permission" and "charge backs are prohibited." If someone reads all the posts and dismisses all of them as trolls, then that person has no one to blame but himself when his account is frozen or hit with a fraudulent charge back. Years ago I was once told that if you hear a hundred different people (and I'm talking about people who have no relationship, different cities, different businesses, etc) all make similar claims about a business or a product you have two choices: you can believe every one of them, but that would be foolish. Or you can ignore every one of them and that would be even more foolish.

2) to let these "services" know that there are folks out there keeping score, that there is competition and that continued lies and stupidity will hurt them in the long run.
I am talking with a possible new service from a very large and respected company. They who asked me for some input on what customers want. So despite what some posters are saying, there are some companies out there who will take us seriously.

If I have helped even one person with my info and if that person becomes a billionaire and sends me a lot of money, it will have been worth it.
I don't ask for anything but if you can get a million people to read my page and each send me $2 or if that's too hard, just get two people to read my page and each send me a million dollars, that's all I ask. Just don't send it with Paypal, Exchangepath or Paydirect.
(thanks Dave Barry)

I should add here that even if the company that yisgood is talking to opts to include many of the items that he has suggested, there will still be a period of trial and error and glitches will appear and things will come up on their end that they never anticipated to do with fraud and countless other things.

That doesn't mean that they are not a good company. If they admit their mistake and correct it in a timely manner, they should be given credit for that not slapped in the face...

Yisgood

Thanks for your time attempting to make us aware of events we may not know of, otherwise. Sometimes you feel strongly about what you think, and print your comments accordingly. I feel this is only because you are concerned for the welfare of all who may read your posts, or go to your web site.

I have known you to be a very dedicated, honest, outspoken person. One who is man enough to admit when they have also errored, (such as with PayPal). That, to me, shows a person who deserves to have his opinions read with a certain amount of respect.

I, for one, respect your right to voice your opinion. Whether, or not, other persons agree with your comments has no bearing on your well intended efforts. The data on your site reflects the comments of others. Therefore, it is not a personal agenda.

On the evening news, almost daily, you will hear the comment "I never thought it would happen to me". Thanks for your attempts to keep us from saying those words.

Charlie

First, thanks everyone for holding my hand in my time of "need" especially yisgood who goes out of his way to be helpful. All you guys and gals are great!

I finally got an answer (albeit canned) from Yahoo: "The transaction is in pending status until the transfer of the funds to
your bank account has completed."

So I take this to mean that there is no problem with funds being transferred from the bidder.

Ohhhhhhhhh....that is PayDirect transferring to your bank. That takes forever. Be patient with that.

And ship the package!

grapey is right and for your reference, "forever" = about 11 days.
