http://auctions.yahoo.com/phtml/auc/us/promo/bidlimits.html

I've been sick so haven't seen a thing, and seee no body has mentioned this little item on front page of auctions.
Sounds like Yahoo is going to do something about SHILL bidding....after all.
Or am I reading this wrong.

PS if you haven't got your flu shot get it by hell or high water.
Not a good thing.

Good Grief. What would anyone on Yahoo need with shill bidding with most auctions only having 1 bid on them?

How else do some of these items get the 13 or 14 bids on them and even Better they manage to get on the first page, simple get it bid up...
I bid on something the othernite, I no sooner got the confirm, when in same mail got the outbid notice.
Now I start watching. all 3fb and under people bidding on this item, and the same person always getting top bid ??
Of course no reserve and we all know the item is worth more than one buck, without even glancing...So I knew it was going to happen. And geeeeeee they have a lot of bids a chance on that first page....I can bet dollars to donuts that item will SELL at exactly what the person wants for it...

The way sales are right now, if you get more than one bid, and it's not shill bidding, it's a miracle!

I think this new policy STINKS, because most of my winning bidders are newbies with low FB and most of my auctions are set up to encourage multiple bids- I tend to list multiple groups of related items at one time.

On the bright side, this won't effect "1st bid wins" auctions much since once the auction has closed, it doesn't count, according to the new policy.

Still, Yahoo is on my nerves once again with silly new policy changes. *sigh*

Just wanted to add, thanks for posting Joan! I wouldn't have seen that otherwise.

BTW, how the heck are newbies supposed to build a feedback rating if they can't win more than 5 auctions at once? I really think this is STUPID!

Kick us in the knees when we are on our way down!

Bids have been up! Even multiple bidders!

This one is going to hurt, since many of my bidders have been buying from 1 to 8 or more items to save on shipping charges!

Many of them are new and so far only one deadbeat and only on one item!

I think this is really going to put the screws to low end collectibles on Yahoo when shipping rates go up in January!

I don't see why everyone is pissed off about this. Really. I don't expect it to cost me a cent, and over the long term it will give Yahoo more credibility as a safe place to trade.

Sorry to hear about your bout with the flu Joan. Glad to have you back.

Thanks VM am getting better, snail pace but better.

I don't think any of you are realizing, even if a newbie won 5 auctions from you, allllll they are going to get is ONE fb showing from you...I don't feel yahoo cares a twit about repeat customers, heck I have double the amount of fb that doesn't show, because of repeat business.
Lots of Bidding doesn't do a thing, for a sale.BUT get maybe some shnuck to get in there and bid it up somemore, or more than it's worth.
And gee the seller hits the front pages.
And I give my E MAIL address in all my items so if this person wants to buy multi byes, they can easily e mail me...remember only 1 fb from one seller, ever....
So lets hear an argument on this one..

Can you tell I am feeling better, starting to sound like a p ant.

Seems pointless and unnecessary to me. Might hold back an occasional fruitcake, but at least as often a legitimate buyer.

This is nonsense. If Yahoo was really concerned about legitimate and "responsible"
bidding they would start suspending bidders with a high rate of negative feedback for nonpayment. Yahoo already has more restrictions than we need for a "safe community". Yahoo's motive is obvious. This is another lame attempt to encourage new bidders to sign up for Pay Direct.

VM, totally agree. When I saw that max number of bids on newbies I was impresed.
I believe it will weed out those who we have had bad business with in the past or those to come.

BTW, I have reported a bad bidder and they have been suspended. Blacklist, once again, best thing since sliced bread.

I also read someone is trying to figure out what the little lime icon is. It is that the seller is insured. Pretty good idea if you ask me but since you didn't, good luck.

we need a spot for bad sellers too...
this has nothing to do with bid limits, but you did mention above about bad bidders.
this person a friend, asked the seller a question, and they came back with sorry only had one of these and auction should have closed.
Now she cks and sees it's still going with 5 days, asks again.
The seller comes across with oh I got the items mixed up and I do have more,
But won't sell to you, you need to get some prosac and told her he blacklisted her from his auctions.
i read her messages to him and they were very nice.
This seller never took the time to put the questions and bidder with the actual item.
Just went off the deep end and blacklisted her.
Now I read the fb, and he's done it before too.
These type of sellers are what hurts us all...
FB/Shmeedback...What a shame a person like this has to be around.
Well gee I feel better venting on that one.
I know this customer, and she is a nice person.
I told her to report him to abuse, but she's so nice she probably won't do it.

VM; Thanks for info. I have a recent batch of nonpayers and a couple of bounced checks.
I rarely leave negative feedback, but when I get nonpayers and bounced checks from individuals who are also Yahoo sellers, I think they should know better, so I'm not inclined to cut them any slack.

Seems pointless and unnecessary to me.

I'm surprised everyone has missed Yahoo's hidden agenda here...I guess you just don't have devious minds...

Normally sellers "shill" an auction to drive up the price that other bidders would pay. But if there are no other bidders, what's the point, right?

Well, when a featured item sells, 1/2 of the featured fee is refunded. So I suspect that a lot of sellers are creating bogus ID's, (or using old "stockpiled" ID's from the pre credit card validation days) then using them to place bids on featured items that are closing without any bids.

I strongly suspect that this new rule is a way to reign in such activity.

justjoan;

I reported some sellers to Yahoo abuse. Two of them sent me checks that bounced and the rest would not respond to payment requests for auctions they had won. The response from Yahoo's Abuse Team was "Yahoo Auctions is not responsible and does not get involved with the shipment or transmission of the items offered for sale through Yahoo Auctions".
I don't know what this has to do with sellers writing bad checks and reneging on bids but just to let you know, Yahoo doesn't really give a rat's ass.
