Hello. Sorry to trouble you again. I created an inventory item for a pair of shorts as it appears in my active auctions inventory folder. When it launched on ebay 6888358997 both the title of the auction was wrong and the title in my Vendio template title bar was wrong (showed as a white shirt instead). The previews and the item in my inventory were/are correct. I was able to edit the ebay title on ebay but none of the attempts I made to edit the title in my description would remain when I saved the changes on ebay. I used their description editor to replace the text in the title but the save on ebay didn't save the change. I had to end the listing early. My second auction launched correctly, and the preview of my third looks okay--we'll see. Can you remind me why in SMIE titles do not remain constant at launch?
Can you give me advice for editing the title in the vendio description on ebay. They have a new revision screen and I couldn't find the html--only their wisywig editor that didn't work. thanks.

Think I found it--the site specifics title was not the same as the inventory title. Sorry. Since this is an easy error to make with SMIE, any tips on how to fix it on ebay?

Just a thought--With SMIE our final edit preview of the item is on the description tab and includes only the title of the inventory item even if the title on the site specifics tab is different. Any possibility in future upgrades that either the preview button could be tied to the site specifics title, the preview button could be moved to the site specifics tab area, or if it stays like it is some sort of warning message could appear on the preview if the titles don't match? If folks want a different launch title than inventory title that's the one they want to preview for launch anyway, and if the titles don't match we can at least catch it easier on the preview before a wrong launch at ebay catches us by surprise. Thanks.

Hello. I have had the same thing happen again, only this time I did not accidently delete anything from anywhere in inventory.
I selected 2 auctions that closed tonight (the white shirt and the peach shorts) and one closing last week(the lingerie patterns), clicked relist, changed the prices, reviewed the edit and used the page return button, set the launch times, and hit relist. I got the confirmation screen that all three had been relisted. Only the first, the white shirt, appeared in pending and launched. The other 2 never appeared in pending and didn’t launch.
When I try to relist I get the error screen that I can’t do that because those two have already been relisted. I’m sorry I still do not understand why this is happening. It is obviously related to the way SMIE is set up to work because I never had this happen with SMME. Can you help me figure out how to avoid this problem? Thanks!
The closed auction items involved are:
White shirt --relisted fine as 9329082341
Lingerie patterns 6283516933 –has not relisted
Peach shorts 6888358997 –has not relisted
You have a total of 3 of these items in inventory currently, unfortunately none of which are the originals that were used to submit this item number. As a result when you go to relist this item the original is not found and it will fail.
You can however use any of the 3 currently in inventory to submit another without error.
Item : 6888358997
This was an item you had ended early because of a mistake. You then replaced it with item number 6888373280 on the same day, which has since closed without a winning bidder.
Item 6888373280 in post sale will allow you to select and relist without any error messages.

Hi Christopher. Thank you very much. When you get a moment, I need some advice.
Because there is no way to use different sections of Custom Text that remains permanently associated with an item (changes at launch to whatever is selected at the moment), I have followed the vendio customer service suggestion to put all my different custom sections of text into the item description. Only a small section of that is true default text, the rest is category item specific (one blurb for pattern auctions, a different blurb for clothing, etc). This results in an inventory that is a category based text design profile instead of individual item data based.
I now see that once copied and launched, if it is touched in any way using a one-tier setup the system may no longer recognize it as the same item. Is that also location dependent?--meaning is that also true if the folder is changed, or the item is moved around to various places in my inventory-- or only if the item is entirely cancelled or deleted?
Perhaps instead of moving my inventory items folder to folder from a prelaunch inventory folder (where they are copied to and edited), and moving them to an active auctions folder for launch, etc. I could make it work within the three tiers available: First tier for generic profile items (description text, type of pricing etc), the second tier for copies that are getting edited (which I could also copy for a similar item later), and the third tier for finished items in launch format that get launched and stay in that third tier location unchanged and untouched forever. Might that work? Do you have a better suggestion? Thanks!

Hi. It's been about 3 days since I asked for some help in my last post and I can't launch much until I get the information back. If I do I may not be able to relist the items because of how I'm currently using my inventory setup. Any chance there is someone there who could take a look at my last post, or would you prefer I start a new thread under the topic of inventory? Thanks.
You actually should be able to move your inventory item from folder to folder and still have it be recognized as the same inventory item. Are you copying the inventory item to the new folder, or are you using the "Move" function? I would recommend using the "Move" function (this button is located at the top of your list of inventory next to the "Copy" button).
You also should be able to make changes to an inventory item and still have it be recognized as the same inventory item. Do you have an example inventory item that you changed (but did not copy), but it is no longer recognized as the same inventory item?
I hope I am understanding your question correctly. Please do let me know if I am not, or if you have any additional questions or concerns.

Hello. Thanks for the reply back. The item above #6283516933 is one like that. I do use the move function to transfer the items between folders. What I am doing is creating the basic inventory type in its category folder. Then I copy an item in my inventory folders to my prelaunch inventory folder. There I work on/edit it to create the item version I want to launch. When launched I move them to the active auction folder, and I thought when closed I would move them to a closed auctions folder. The first time I misunderstood the item sitting in postsale was not enough and I deleted the items, then had to recreate them because I can't relist on ebay because the font formatting in my vendio template doesn't get transferred over.
The next time I just left everything in my prelaunch inventory folder. And then in the post above 2 out of 3 failed again, so I decided I better see what can be moved and when before I touch anything else.
If I reorganize this by tiers instead of moving among primary tier folders do you think the program could identify things better (see 6/8 post)? I'm new to smie and I don't know what I am doing to make the items unrecognizable at relist if they are sitting in postsale. I don't understand Christopher's comment that I have 3 items in inventory but none of them was the "original" the item was prepared from. Where does the item have to be to match up with the item on the closed auction summary screen (sorry that is probably a really stupid newbie question)? Is there a FAQ link you can refer me to that tells what kinds of moves among folders and edits make items unrecognizable at relist? Thanks.
I think you may have misunderstood how the inventory function works. There actually shouldn't be any reason to move your inventory items from folder to folder, unless you are reorganizing your account.
There should be no reason to move your inventory items to an "Active" folder or a "Closed" folder. No matter what folder your inventory item is stored in, you can see how many items are on the market for that inventory item. This is under the column "On Market".
Could you please explain the reason for moving your inventory items from folder to folder? Maybe we can suggest an alternate method to achieve the same goal.
Also, please note that the copy fuction should be used to make an entirely new inventory item.
Do you sell entirely unique items? Inventory Edition is generally designed for people who sell multiple copies of the same item. Maybe Merchandising Edition would be better for you. What was your original reasoning for using Inventory Edition instead of Merchandising Edition?

Hello. Thanks for your help.
For how and why I am using the inventory functions as I am, please see my post above
posted on June 8, 2006 01:30:36 PM. My use of the inventory relates to variations in vendio's custom text sections not able to be permanently associated with a listing (was explained in that post). In considering alternative solutions, please also review my question (asked twice above) asking if you think using a tiered folder structure for each class of descriptive-text item might work out better as one of the solutions. I have stopped listing and relisting items and begun setting up my inventory folders to try that out unless you suggest an even better idea.
I always use the copy function only to make an entirely new inventory item. After that I never use the copy function--only the edit function or the move function. Every item I list is either a copy or an edited copy of one of my primary tier items.
I do not sell entirely unique items. Not only do I love the efficiency and the inline quantity editing features of smie, I also do sell items that are multiples (like the Liz Claiborne white shirt auctions--I have sold 2 and have 1 left to relist and one more after that to sell). Eventually I also want to take advantage of the "keep one on the market" feature.
I'm very new to smie, only a dozen launches or so, many of which had to be cancelled because there were mistakes in the ebay checkout requiring ebay sell your item form test launches to correct. So this early on, a few learning glitches to make the most of smie still seem worth it. I have no desire to ever go back to smme.

Hello. It is now 3 days since my last post and 9 days since I posted a request for help regarding the information given to you on June 8th. The last reply was not only not helpful, it did not sound like anyone read my previous information before shooting from the hip. As it is, 4 out of 6 of my relists fail. I am not willing to list or relist until someone addresses this. 9 days of waiting for something like this is too long, in my opinion. I have given specific information and asked a specific questions about it. Could someone from customer service please read my previous post and post of June 8th and give relevant answers? Thank you.
Sorry for the confusion and for not being able to followup on this personally after starting to tackle all of these details for you (away at eBay live.)
If at all possible, can you summerize what it is that your working on right now with all of this?
With the rather lengthy details and time that has passed im not sure where to even pick up in all of this.
Are you still getting an error message when you try to relist the items that I had said previously that you should be able to do so, or are you now just looking for more information on a workaround to store 'default' text in a way that doesn't actually default to all of your listings, rather just store some of your 'default' into embedded in the item description field for items that you need it to remain the same on even when you change it in your custom listing text pages?
posted on June 18, 2006 06:59:19 PM new
Summary: I have the problem that my relists have failed, 4 out of 6 times and in smie when the relist functions fail there is no fix for it. Relisting is thereafter blocked in smie forever on that item. I can't relist or edit through ebay because the way vendio is set up with their template submission none of my fonts and formatting are preserved. A sell your item form edit ruins my listing, and not everything in the vendio templates can be edited with ebay's wisywig editor (such as title). If I can't successfully relist through vendio I pay double to launch a second time without benefitting from the relisting credits.
Since there is no way to use vendio's custom text features in a way that the text once set remains constant with the item description (it changes at launch to the most recently set global default), when I asked what to do you all suggested I move what would normally be default and custom text sections into the description proper. So that is what I did. Therefore, none of my primary tier inventory items are marketable items. They are all templates/profiles for the description text of the category of item combined with specific pricing and single or multiple item option combinations I use most frequently. At least that part of it has been working very well so far.
So to create a marketable item I need to copy a primary tier inventory item to get the correct description text, pricing, and item type, put it somewhere I can work on it over several days to edit the parameters for the specific item, and then save it somewhere to be launched. My failed relists most likely relate in some way to how I have either edited or moved the items among folders around the time or after launch.
There is no good way in inventory to distinguish between a scheduled item that is a primary launch and one that is a relist (an edited previously launched item). So that in the future nothing is moved or touched from the locus they are scheduled from, my 2 choices seem to be either move them among different primary tier folders (such as the prelaunch inventory and active auctions folders I have been using), or move them into second and/or third tier folders for each category of item template. Doing most of the work in second tier folders is more inconvenient.
Any suggestions you might have for this would be appreciated. If you need more details, please read my previous posts.
Note that the relists did not actually fail because you simply moved them from one folder to another. The only time a relist will fail is when it has been deleted from inventory completely.
If you have used the item to create another and the original is deleted, you will not be able to relist anything that originally stemmed from that item.
So, feel free to move items from folder to folder, thats a non-issue.
If you find an item that you cannot relist from the closed/post sale page, go to inventory and locate the original.
If you cannot locate the original, this is why the relist is failing. If you can locate an item in inventory with the same title, so you know at least it may have originally came from this master copy - click on the 'at market' number to see this items complete history.
This is where you can verify if the item you are attempting to relist from the closed/post sale pages is truly a 'child' of this master copy in inventory.
If so, you can simply list this item from inventory directly, as the SMIE system will recognize that it should qualify for relisting credit and submit it as such.

I see my mistake. I was thinking of the primary tier items as "originals" but not the intermediate copies I went on to edit. In my particular setup, both the copies and in some cases the edited copies have become "originals". Thank you very much.
