This beautiful vintage wood bowl looks larger than it sounds, as it measures 8" deep and 7" diameter. I can see at least three if not four different woods, from a lighter oak to the darker walnut, but am not sure if this would be considered inlay, laminate or marquetry. The different woods show more distinctively on the outside as the inside appears to have been stained to "level out" the different wood colors. I don't know if it came with the felt on the bottom or if my mom put it on, but there is no signature though this is a handmade piece. This is one of those things I remember being around when I was young. So it could date anywhere between the late 1960s to early 1980s.
My father loved wood carvings and I have kept a couple he brought back from Switzerland after World War II. I love this beautiful bowl, but with our own collection, there is not a proper place to display it in our home. It is priced to go to a collector who will enjoy the craftsmanship of the work that went into this piece and it is comparably priced with other pieces I found on the internet using several woods.
