1908-1998 Proof Set minted for the RCM's 90th Anniversary
Absolutely GORGEOUS quality set!! No toning, all coins, case, etc are!!!PERFECT!!!
Everything included all original as issued by the Mint!!
This beautiful set commemorates the original specimen set issued in 1908 from the Royal Canadian Mint. The coins are minted in the old-fashioned style on the reverse with the laurel leaves and the older legend in the center of the reverse. Just like the first issue set in 1908, the coins are double dated.
**There were TWO nearly identical sets made in this style. This listing is for the set with the Proof Coins.
Interesting historical notes:
· The one cent coin should have had “CANADA” on the reverse but nowhere on the ANTIQUE finish was the word CANADA found. On the proof set this word was put on the obverse.
· There was no Canadian silver dollar until 1935 so this set does not come with a silver dollar.
· One-cent coins used to be 2.54 mm or exactly 1 inch in diameter until they were downsized in 1920.
The set includes:
· In Proof 67, 50 cent coin
· In Proof 67, 25 cent coin
· In Proof 67, 10 cent coin
· In Proof 67, 5 cent coin
· In Proof 67, 1 cent coin
Uniquely numbered Certificate of authenticity from RCM
Original maroon leather case from RCM
!!This set is in perfect condition!!
The coins are minted in sterling silver except for the penny which is copper-plated over sterling silver. All the coins have a reeded edge except the penny which has a plain edge.
All the coins are neatly enclosed in a hard plastic protective capsule which is set neatly inside the red leather case. There is also a uniquely numbered certificate of authenticity included. The red leather case has a very nice Royal Canadian Mint logo on the outside of the lid.
This proof set had a mintage of 18,376 which is lower than the antique set (24,893)
