In 1975 the US Mint modified the dies for producing the Eisenhower dollar by changing the reverse to one of national significance by placing the Liberty Bell superimposed on the moon. The date also was changed to a dual date with 1776 - 1976. The coins struck in 1975 were produced with the Variety I design that had low relief with bold lettering on the reverse. The coins of 1976 were produced with the Variety design II that was a sharper design with deleivate lettering on the reverse.
Collector's coins were struck in 40% silver composition and the circulation issue in copper-nickel.
