Kennedy was killed by an assasinated in Dallas, Texas the US Congress and the Senate voted to have a coin manufactured of his likeness dedicated to his memory, so in 1964 the Kennedy BU silver half dollar and silver proofs were struck and ended the reign of the Franklin half dollar. The Kennedy half dollar was removed active circulation in 2005 and are made for collectors only present day.
