Wonderful antique framed, matted print entitled The Nearest Way. The large carved wood frame features acorn leaves and actual acorn nuts in a relief pattern with medallion corners. The frame is 23" by 27". The print inside the matting is 13" by 17".  The artwork features a young boy and girl at edge of a pond and it looks like they are attempting to take the Nearest Way home over the water by stepping on rocks.  The boys pants are rolled up so he wont' get them wet and they are both carrying their socks and shoes. So adorable. Plus bottom right hand corner marked 1879 with 2 letters between the date (HH).  Damage includes lot of wear to the corners of the frame and interior stress lines on the frame itself. The inner lining is a velvet material, very worn, tattered and discolored. The matting is in good condition but definitely yellowed from age. I would say the joints of the frame are a bit loose as well, most especially at the inner velvet lining sections. The back shows the old original wood backing and that shows some looseness as well. See all photos. The print itself is in very good condition with no rips, tears of foxing. I believe the glass is original as well as I do so slight waviness. Stunning Victorian era giclee print.
