Capitalizing on the incredible popularity of Hobnail Glass from the Fenton Art Glass Company, The Westmoreland Glass Company created pattern #77, American Hobnail. Produced throughout the 1950’s and somewhat into the 1960’s in Milk Glass, it had a good number of items in it’s range. Over shadowed by the popularity of pattern #1881, Paneled Grape, it appears that very little American Hobnail was produced from the mid 60’s on. The very last Milk Glass American Hobnail item, at least that I could find in catalogs that I have, was a single 10” vase in the 1969 catalog. And so the vast majority of White Milk Glass in Westmoreland‘s #77 American Hobnail pattern around these days is probably 50 to 60 years old. The pattern itself had two brief resurgent’s in colors other than milk glass. One in 1971 and one in 1983 - 1984, that one just before the Westmoreland Factory shut down forever. I have some examples of those up for bid as well as this Milk Glass.
A beautiful pair of White Milk Glass candlesticks (AH-9) in the #77 American Hobnail pattern by Westmoreland Glass. Each piece stands 4-¾” high and are in perfect condition, no chips, cracks or nicks.
