• ITEM: Pair of 19tn century French Wooden Shoes

• DISCUSSION: We are offering in this auction is a pair of hand carved French Wooden Clogs. I purchased these about 10 years ago when we took an antiquing trip up to Nova Scotia. The receipt that I received with these says they are 18th century. I wasn't sure, so to be on the safe side, I said 19th. They are quite large, I measured the length at 12 1/2". I put my foot into one of them, and I had at least an 1" clearance (and I wear a size 9 now). Obviously, these must have been men's clogs.

There is a leaf design carved on the front of each shoe.

I use to keep these in my guest bedroom next to the bed. They make a lovely primitive item, either to have on the floor, on the wall, or displayed on a table.

• CONDITION: They are quite worn. The leather straps are quite old, but it looks like they have been replaced at one time, since there are open nail holes on the side. Please see pictures.
