• ITEM:  8 1/2" 19th Century Earthenware Pottery Pitcher with hand applied handle

• DISCUSSION:  We are offering in this auction an earthenware jug decorated with vines etched into the clay. It was one of the first antiques I ever purchased. That purchase occurred in the mid 1970's in a little antique shop in Southampton, Long Island owned by Inez MacWhinnie. Anyone who lived on the East End or visited the Hamptons, knew Mrs MacWhinnie for her great shops in Bridgehampton and Southampton. She was a fixture out there, and she knew her stuff. Her son continues her tradition of offering fine pieces and he specializes in Period Early American furniture. Anyway, she thought this piece could possibly be Shinnecock Indian, but I tend believe it looks more like the pottery coming out of Eastern Pennsylvannia. Either way, the piece is very old, I would say before 1850. All these pottery pieces I have listed are representative of a rural life of an earlier time, and look great in any rustic setting.

• CONDITION: The condition is good. There is one tiny flake on the top rim. Please see pictures.
