Encyclopedia Britannica 1971 23 Volumes + Index/Atlas Volume and Books of the Year for 1972, 1973, and 1974 Published: Encyclopedia Britannica, Inc. William Benton, Publisher. Chicago, London, Toronto, Geneva, Sydney, Tokyo, Manila. This is one of the last editions of the old, alphabetical Britannica before they came out with the disastrous, hard-to-use 15th edition which divided the information up between the Macropaedia, the Micropaedia, and the Propaedia. Very good to excellent condition. Pages are crisp; Edge wear is minimal to nonexistent; Still has that "new book" smell. Volume 1 appears to have been wet; some of the pages are stiff and/or wrinkled. Index volume has a piece torn away at the top of the spine. Many, many plates, some in color. Very nice endpapers with sepia-toned reproductions from the first edition of the encyclopaedia. Dedicated to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and President Richard Milhous Nixon. Burgundy leather-look hardcover with a gilt design and the year 1768 on cover, gilt lettering and designs on spine. A very nicely bound edition.
