Emily Crofford has written a sensitive and endearing telling of the true story of Manjiro, a Japanese boy who was exiled from his country in the 19th century for the crime of being rescued from the sea by foreigners. Manjiro was then educated in the United States and dedicated his life to opening up relations between his beloved home, Japan, and his adopted country, the United States. Manjiro was an intelligent and resourceful man and this is a story that's very inspiring to read.

This auction is for a first edition, first printing copy of the book, autographed by the author. The autograph is dated '91. The book is in near fine condition, with bumped corners.

This book is used by the Sonlight curriculum level 5 and has been republished by them. Copies of the original edition are becoming hard to find, and this one is pristine.  A collector's item that you'll handle with care so as to be able to share it with generations of children in your family.
