Elsie Dinsmore, beloved of generations of girlish readers, grows from childhood to young womanhood in this novel covering the years in which "her character was developing and mind and body were growing and strengthening for the real work and battle of life." The book was written in 1872 by Martha Finlay.
This vintage copy was published by The Goldsmith Publishing Company of Chicago and New York, probably around 1940. It has an inscription on the title page dated Dec. 25, 1943. It is bound in pea green cloth with black lettering. 8vo size (ca. 8 1/4" high). 252 pages. Dust jacket has a picture of Elsie looking at a bird in a cage. Picture on dust jacket looks like it dates to the early 20th century.
Book has very tanned pages, foxing on the page fore edges and a small stain on the top edges. Otherwise clean and unmarked except for the inscription. Binding solid. Jacket has small chips along the edges. Very nice copy to add to your collection.
