Hatchet by Paulsen Newbery Honor classroom connections
Price: $2.99

Hatchet is a popular wilderness survival story in which a boy's plane crashes over the Canadian wilderness. Since the pilot is killed in the crash, Brian is left to his own devices to figure out how to survive in the wild. The book won a Newbery honor award and was formerly used in the Sonlight 200 curriculum.
This edition has a great little "connections" section at the back that can help the reader respond to and discuss the book. In the connections are Gary Paulsen's description of his hands-on research for the book, excerpts from several other survival stories in various settings to compare and contrast with Hatchet, and a short biography of Paulsen.
Hardback textbook has the standard textbook chart printed inside the front cover (whom the textbook was issued to, condition returned in, etc.) and a teacher's name printed on the front flyleaf. Also bumped corners and general scuffing to the cover. Pages are crisp, clean, and unmarked. Binding is solid. A great book for a teacher or homeschool. I'd suggest 5th-8th grade for optimum student interest.
