You'll love this attractive vintage dress. 1950s style brown dress with a striped bodice and a solid skirt. Fitted, drop waisted, cap sleeved bodice, knife pleated skirt, bias cut border at the joining of the bodice to the skirt, and a rolled collar bordered with another bias cut border. Side zipper for a smooth look accross the back. Shoulder pads have been added to take up the slack because the dress was too big in the bust for the last owner. They could be removed for a more authentic look.
This dress fits like a modern misses size 10. It measures 18" across the front from underarm to underarm; 15" across the front at the waistline, and 18 1/2" across the front at the hips. Skirt falls at mid calf length, about 27 1/2" from the waistline. (It's kind of hard with this cut of dress to tell exactly where the true waistline is, but that's my best estimate.) This dress looks gorgeous on. It really emphasizes the curves of the female figure. Unfortunately, since I am primarily a bookseller, I do not have a model available to model this dress for you.
This is a tailor-made dress with all the attention to detail that that implies. It has self-bias binding covering the seam where the collar attaches to the bodice and nylon seam tape covering the raw edge of the hem. It is hemmed with a professional catch stitch. Other seams are unfinished but there is remarkably little fraying. This dress should be good for many more years of wear. There is a little straining of the seams at the bodice darts. There are also faded spots under the arms You can see the faded spots in some of the pictures. They do not show when the dress is being worn. The fabric is a summer-weight wool broadcloth. There are no tags, but I would highly recommend always dry-cleaning this dress.
