Stunning Huge Antique Brass Cast Iron Balance Scale Weight Pan No weights

Almost too big to picture

This is a very rare one arm metric scale coming from the Old World. Probably originates France.  

The unit of measurement of weight the graduations on the beam represent, as the slide weight doesn't seem to line up exactly with a known weight. 

The scale has two suspension hooks, one for light weighing and one for heavier. 

The scale appear to be hand forged. 

The chain links are not perfectly uniform and are probably hand formed. 

Brass pan brackets as well as copper rivets appear to be hand formed also. 

This scale appears to have been used considerably, indicated by wear on beam caused by sliding of

There are areas of copper oxidation on inside pan. 

 It would also make a great decorative conversation piece!

The pan itself measures over 13 inches in diameter and supported by three chains to brass fittings riveted to the pan. 

The arm measures almost 34” long in total.

Good condition for age.

Dating back to about the mid to late 1800s
