Vintage Genuine Apple Coral Lion Earrings pierced $18 / pair SALE Lion earrings $10 (When purchased with necklace) These earrings are New Vintage stock and have never been worn. Very Limited Quantities.
A similar Lion Necklace is pictured on page 126 of Lillian Baker's 20th Century Fashionable Plastic Jewelry Book. Described as laminated plastic combined with pulverized gemstones, and carved cinnabar. Circa 1970 with a value listed of $275-$350. The beads are different but the lion is the same. I wonder if the author knew that this was sliced apple coral? My price is about 1/10 of the listed value. Also the apple coral is not pulverized since you can clearly see the beautiful grain of the apple coral.
Currently Apple Coral is becoming rare and hard to find in the bead trade since coral collection and mining was banned worldwide in 1992. Also the United States currently has an import ban on corals from the Philippines. These beads are all from an old stash that had been stored in someone's garage for years. They were imported from the Philippines sometime in the late 1960's or early 1970's.
