Up for sale, a 1960s Goya Rangemaster model 116 SB in excellent, 100% original condition and in good working order. These lovely Italian offset guitars were claimed to have been produced in the Galanti factory and feature Z coil pickups with ingenious switching that allows you to select individual coils in tandem from both the neck and bridge pickups! Conveniently numbered 1-4, this Goya provides a stunning range of dynamic tones via the push button switches. Combined with three tone switches and a master volume control, this Goya is the ultimate in 1960s kitsch as well as an instrument for the serious player. Everything from thinned out hollow twang to meaty, midrange rich rhythm is accessible via the pickup switches. This guitar excels in truly providing significant tonal variation at the push of a button.
The maple neck has a slim C profile with Brazilian rosewood fretboard and offset dot inlays. The original frets are in excellent shape, showing only light wear on the first 3 frets down near the nut, virtually no wear up the neck and proper intonation with no excessive fret buzz or dead spots detected. On the large headstock, the original tuners with lollipop buttons are intact, turn smoothly and show some light surface pitting on the chrome plating, but no serious wear. The "Goya Rangemaster" logo is completely intact and mint.
The overall look of this guitar with the giant gumbi-esque headstock, staggered pickups and buttons galore, reminds me of a cross between a Fender Jaguar/Jazzmaster and the ultra rare Fender Maverick/Custom.
All of the electronics work, including every combination made with the push buttons. The pickguard has a three-dimensional woodgrain quality while actually having a purple tint not unlike a vintage Ludwig tiger stripe drum wrap. It's a very cool look that contrasts well with the red sunburst. Cosmetically, this is a very clean and original instrument. The finish is vibrant and unfaded. As you can see in the pictures there's are a few scattered nicks and dings but nothing that affects the structural integrity of the guitar.
The tremolo bar is missing, but low cost replacements can be found online. Also, I don't have the original hard shell case, but will include the vintage 60's hard shell case shown in the pics. The case is of high quality and in very nice condition.
This guitar is ready to be played now, but being a 40 year old instrument I'd recommend a professional setup for optimum performance.
