Olinton and his Bracelets: Olinton loves his art and hand-knots every last detail on his bracelets.  He uses combinations of vibrantly colored 100% cotton twines to achieve a unique result for each bracelet made.  With amazing speed and dexterity, he can craft a simple bracelet in about 30 minutes and a more complex design in about an hour.  About once a month he travels from Granada where he lives – situated on Lake Nicaragua – and heads north by bus to the city of León where he finds the best twines and colors in the street markets. Now in his twenties Olinton is a master of his craft and has supported himself with it since he was a child. He is able to support himself through his bracelet sales and has returned to school to complete his general education – which he missed out on when he was younger.  Very serious about his schooling Olinton studies hard and attends evening school. Making bracelets, for Olinton, is a great way to relax during the day and often his friends will hang out and chat while he busily knots and weaves.  When each bracelet is completed it is finished with a rubbing of wax – and the twine tips are fused with a flame. The waxing gives the bracelets a protective coating so they can be worn in the shower, sea and pool.  When received as a gift from a loved one – many bracelets are worn daily without ever being taken off.  If worn constantly the bracelet will maintain good color and may last many months before the wearer grudgingly decides to tell it ‘goodbye’.
