Date is a former combat photojournalist whose experiences in such far flung war zones as Uganda, Lebanon and Angola have begun to loosen his grip on reality. After years of viewing battlefield atrocities he becomes mentally unstable and goes on a spree of robbery and murder.

After a police officer gets killed in a back alley, his gun is used in a series of armed robberies. With bodies piling high and a large amount of money missing, the police are at a loss to find the culprit. But based on a strange lead, Detective Kashiwagi closes in on a suspect by the name of Date Kunihiko. The reclusive Date seems to rarely leave his home, and in his demeanor and presence, Kashiwagi finds an inexplicable feeling of coldness, like that of a dead man walking.....
