BRAVE RONIN

Roningai no Kaoyaku - Tsugumo Hanbei, a Samurai of Edo castle, decides to live in the impoverished outskirts of Edo because he is convinced life will be more rewarding there.

This Ronin-by-choice comes to live in an inn which sort of specializes in housing ronin, but this new arrival's constant cheerfulness is grating to the other ronin, who at one point betray him for money, then end up helping him out because he so easily forgives them.

The action begins when a geisha escapes the clutches of the Hanya crime family with the help of this brave Ronin who is willing to put his life on the line and stand tall against the brutal town bosses.

While others may shake in fear, he alone rises to the occasion.  After Hanbei sets everything on the street of unemployed Samurai to rights, he heads off to the next impoverished corner of the city to help others in need as the devoted, heart-won townsfolk bow to him in admiration as he passes amongst them straight & tall.

The film is great fun with exciting though bloodless swordplay.
