Ketto Suikoden Doto no Taikets - One of the great stories from Japan's rich history comes to life in this true tale of the bloody showdown between two rival yakuza gangs at the time of Tenpo [1830-1844]. This version stays much closer to the true story and has one of the most exciting finales in Japanese film, the real story behind this epic struggle comes to life.
The chivalrous gamblers, Sukegoro of Shimosa, and Shigezo of Sasagawa, were both well heard-of yakuza bosses. Boss Sukegoro controlled gambling at ports along the Tonegawa river and was an officer of the "Kanto" Police force. Boss Shigezo controlled local gambling at the basin of the Sasagawa river, a tributary of the Tonegawa.
When it was requested that the police arrest Shigezo, he went after his would-be arrestor, Sukegoro. Boss Sukegoro lost this first round of what became an all-out melee between the two groups. This showdown is known by a number of dramatic names but is most simply called the Tonegawa War.
