DUEL OF BLOOD AND SAND (1963) - REMASTERED
Chi to suna no ketto - What would
happen if immoral Samurai chose to help the Bandits instead of the farmers?
Inaba, a Masterless Samurai who’s recently deserted his clan, stumbles upon a remote village where a bandit is attempting to rape one of the women. After Inaba kills the assailant, the villagers shun him in horror instead of thanking him. When he learns that they fear the vengeance of the bandits, he confronts them over their cowardice, and exhorts them to fight instead of letting the bandits steal their harvests and rape their women. After much debate, the peasants half-heartedly agree to let Inaba train them in the defense of their village.
Meanwhile, Inaba's former Lord has sent four of his best Samurai to hunt down and kill Inaba. At first they figure he'll be an easy target, being holed up in a remote village and all, but Inaba's canny strategies, and the help of the villagers, allow him to keep slipping from their grasp. Then, while in the heat of battle, the four Samurai set aside their Bushido Code of Honor and offer to form an alliance with the bandits. Now everything points to an ultimate showdown between former clansmen in a battle to the death!
