A CERTAIN KILLER (1967) - REMASTERED

Aru Koroshiya - aka ‘The Hit Man’ - Kazuo Mori’s stylish adaptation of the hard-boiled crime novel, ‘The Night Before’, by Shinji Fujiwara is a dark, nihilistic thriller in the Le Samouraï vein, with Ichikawa Raizo as a former kamikaze, who has lost his dreams in post-war Japan.

Employed as a cook in a restaurant, he supplements his income by working as a contract killer for two Yakuza Clans. When he murders a Yakuza Boss, he must go into hiding in a shabby suburb.A gritty morality tale that finds its emotional core in the lost dreams of the postwar generation, this is an updating of the Raizo hero (he was often cast in historical roles) to the modern antihero.

With the exquisite camerawork of Kazuo Miyagawa and a script by Yasuzo Masumura.
