CURSE OF THE DOG GOD (1977) - REMASTERED
Inugami no tatari – Somewhere in Japan. In a rural village with a poorly understood but long standing curse from the Dog God three geologists from a major Tokyo mining corporation find a rich uranium mine, but accidently they destroy a small shrine dedicated to the Dog God and crush a dog under their jeeps wheel.
Six months later; when Kano, one of the geologists, marries Reiko, daughter of village leader, the Dog God’s wrath boils over and people start to die. Back in Tokyo, Kano's two colleagues die unnatural deaths and his wife goes insane, which all might have to do with the curse of the Dog God. Kano and Reiko return to the village where her Father hires all sorts of spiritualists to have her exorcised, but it is unsuccessful and she dies too. As the body count accumulates, the cause of and remedy for the curse becomes more opaque.
A subtly directed, very atmospheric and even creepy story full of well-placed shocks and quite a bit of gore.
