While traveling he befriends a country Samurai, and the pair soon join forces with Kinoshita Tokichiro (later to be known as Toyotomi Hideyoshi) in smuggling 300 matchlock rifles (tanegashima) to Oda Nobunaga. Helped by a band of Bashaku (freight transporters) they must fight impossible odds against the Ninja of Takeda Shingen who lay in ambush and seemingly attack at every bend in the road.
