BLACK ROSE MANSION (1969) - REMASTERED

Kuro bara no yakata - Hot on the heels of his success with the Yukio Mishima scripted ‘Black Lizard’, Fukasaku and Co. were interested in making something of a sequel, the product of which became Black Rose Mansion. But instead of a direct sequel, Fukasaku adapted another of Mishima’s plays.

Black Rose Mansion is about a thief - but one who steals the love and self respect of those men who encounter her.
Mysterious lounge singer Ryuko is the subject of awe with an intensity bordering on worship at the Black Rose Mansion, the private men's club that employs her. It's not just the patrons who are enamored with her -- Ryuko has also attracted the reverence of the club's millionaire owner, his estranged son, and a string of lovers past and present. As their obsessions take a turn toward the violent, the young singer's life grows increasingly complicated.

An odd, but fascinating film. Don't watch it for the plot. Watch it for the complex point of view and the lead's tour de force performance.
