Kairyu Dai-Kessen - (aka: The Magic Serpent) This film is a loose retelling of the famous Japanese folktale, Jiraiya GÅketsu Monogatari (The Tale of the Gallant Jiraiya).
In ancient Japan, a good lord is killed and his throne stolen by the treacherous Yuki Daijo and the evil wizard Oroki. Miraculously, during the attack, young Prince Ikazuki is rescued from the jaws of death by a giant eagle. Ten years later, Ikazuki, now a wizard himself, embarks on a quest to take back his kingdom while confronting ghosts, ninjas, and an evil wizard along the way. The conclusion is an all out battle between the good prince and the evil wizard.
This amazing and exciting fantasy-samurai film stars a young Matsukata Hiroki in one of the pivotal roles of his career. Matched up against brilliant special effects and the huge star Otomo Ryutaro, Hiroki more than holds his own. The action sequences are imaginative and plentiful, overall, this is a very fun film.
