Juzo Itami - A TAXING WOMAN (1987) - REMASTERED

Marusa no onna - Winner of 9 Japanese Academy awards - A fascinating and unusual insight into Japanese culture in this subtly hilarious tale of Ryoko, Tokyo’s hardest working female tax inspector.

Ryoko is a divorced mother who also works for the Japanese Revenue Service, with her freckles and page-boy hair cut she's a workaholic, steadfast and incorruptible in her duties. Her one stumbling block is Gondo, an expert on tax evading, in Japan tax evasion is an art and Gondo is, in effect, Rembrandt.

He's a business man that runs hotels, he uses scams and works with underworld figures, bankers and political figures to keep his money. When the two meet, it becomes a comedic battle. There's sexual tension between them but the question is: will he be able to keep his money hidden from her? Will she be able to get his money from him?

It's a very funny movie, showing the depths that people will sink to hold onto taxable income and the depths that the tax inspectors will go to catch their man/woman.

This is not the poor quality FOX LORBER Version.
