The Rise and Fall of the Luftwaffe in World War II by Germany's Commander of Fighter Forces. Adolph Galland was one of the 27 most highly decorated German Soldiers during WWII. He held the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds.
This book starts in 1938, runs through the start of WWII, into the Battle of Britain, on to Operation Barbarossa and through to the Fall of the Third Reich. It also details Galland's struggles with Hitler over the Me262 and its use as a fighter. Hitler wanted it to be built as a blitz bomber. This struggle went on for some time. It wasnt until the last year of the war that the Me262 was allowed to be put into manufacturing and only a small number were ever put into service.
Although, the ones that were, were quite effective. While the Me262 would not likely have won the war for Germany, it certainly could have prolonged the war had the Me262 been allowed to be built as a fighter and put into service earlier.
