Bidjar rugs are tightly woven, highly prized for their thick and very tightly packed weft. They are mostly woven from wool on a cotton warp and weft. However, finer examples of rugs are woven with silk highlights or 100% pure silk. They are all hand-knotted and can be wool on cotton warp and weft or wool on wool. The Bidjar design is unique and not imitated by other rug making areas. They predominantly utilize the Turkish symmetrical knot as well as the Persian asymmetrical knot. The wool is dyed from vegetable dyes. The colors run the full spectrum of the color pallet. A Bidjar is a very rugged and durable rug and is destined to become a treasured family heirloom passed on for generations.
