How to Protect Your Camera in the Rain?

Photographers have dozens of tips and tricks that allow them to shoot even when nature is not cooperating. While few photographers purposely go out to take pictures in the rain, lots of photographers have found themselves clicking away when a storm comes on quickly. And for photojournalists, shooting in bad weather is essentially written into the job description. Protecting your gear enables you to continue shooting despite the rain, or run for cover and keep your camera safe in the process.

• Cut the sleeve or pant leg from the raincoat or rain pants. Pant legs work best for larger cameras and larger lenses.
• Slide the sleeve or leg over the camera. Bring the lens flush with the opening.
• Wrap the rubber band around the lens to create a seal.
• Roll the other end of the sleeve or pant leg back far enough to allow you to use the shutter button, viewfinder and other controls.
• Pack your camera bag. Include your raincoat sleeve, various sizes of plastic bags (to use in a pinch if you do not have your raincoat sleeve), as well as a clean, dry towel to blot your camera dry in case of an emergency.
