How to Reset a Network Hub:

A network hub is among the most basic of networking devices; both in implementation and troubleshooting. A hub simply rebroadcasts information it receives to all the devices connected to it, minus the one that sent it the information. Hubs can't be configured in any way. You simply plug them into any network and they'll integrate themselves seamlessly. At the same time, hubs allow additional devices to connect to the network using Ethernet cables.

  • Unplug the AC power adapter from the back of the hub, or otherwise deprive the hub of power.
  • Wait 30 seconds to let all the electrical current leave the circuitry. This clears any temporary data in memory.
  • Plug the AC adapter into the back of the hub or otherwise power it on.

How to Install a Network Hub to a Router:

Normally, routers, used for connection to home networks and internet access, carry only a few Ethernet ports. While this is acceptable in a household of one or two computers, it isn't enough when you want to connect a larger selection of PCs. The network hub lets you give many computers access to the router because it has many more port connections. In order to use it, you'll need to connect your computers to the hub, and the hub to the router.

  • Set up your router. If it is a cable Internet router, connect your cable cord from the wall to the router. If it is a DSL internet router, connect a phone line to the router. This will provide Internet access to the hub through the router.
  • Connect the network hub to the router using a CAT5 Ethernet cable. Stick one end in the uplink port on the network hub. Stick the other end into the LAN port on your router.
  • Press the "Normal/Uplink" button on your network hub so that the hub receives information from the router. If It's working properly, there should be a light on your network hub indicating a connection.
  • Connect each computer to the network hub. Stick one end of a new CAT5 Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on your PC, and the other end into one of many open link ports on the network hub. Do this for each of your computers with a separate CAT5 cable for each.
  • Test the connection to the router with one of the connected computers. If you can access the Internet, you have successfully connected your network hub to a router.

Tips & Warnings:

  • Make sure all Ethernet cables are tethered and hidden to avoid trips and falls.
