How to Roll a Cigarette:

With the high prices of cigarettes today, many aficionados are returning to loose tobacco and rolling their own to get their buzz on. With a little practice, rolling your own joint can be quick and simple.

• Select a clean, dry, flat surface on which to roll your joint, like a counter or table top.
• Open your tobacco pouch, checking that the tobacco is clean, dry and easy to separate.
• Separate out a rolling paper.
• Place your paper within easy reach on your flat surface, making sure the glued edge (if there is one) is facing up and towards you.
• Roll a small piece of medium-weight paper, like an index card or cigarette box, into an S-shape and place it inside the left end of your rolling paper.
• Take out a pinch of tobacco and sprinkle it into your rolling paper, avoiding the filter or roach.
• Repeat Step 6 until your cigarette is about 1/2 to 2/3 full of tobacco.
• Pick up your filled rolling paper by both ends and hold it steadily in each hand, with your left hand holding the filter or roach in place.
• Begin rolling the side of the paper closest to you underneath the far, sticky side. Use a fluid motion beginning at the base and moving up to the end of the cigarette.
• When you have a roughly cylindrical shape, tuck the edges of the close side of the paper underneath the sticky side. Don't worry about any tobacco that may have spilled out in the process.
• Use your tongue to wet the glue on the rolling paper, being sure to hold the cigarette firmly.
• Stick the glued edge of the paper to the joint to form a cylinder. Take care to avoid any folding or gaps.
• Hold the cigarette with the open end up and place any escaped tobacco into the cylinder.
• Close the open end with a twisting motion, much like you would close a bag of bread with a twist-tie.
• Check the cigarette for any gaps, rips or tears, and light an end to smoke it.
