How to Make Your Own Pins?

Pins, also called brooches, are decorative jewelry items worn on clothing. A person might wear a pin on the lapel of a jacket, on the pocket-area of a shirt or on the front or side of a decoratively knotted woman's scarf. Alternatively, individuals place pins on denim pants as an accessory or on bags to decorate them. According to Groovy Dude, there are several different ways to attach pins to clothes or other types of fabric and different ways to adorn plain pins.

Instructions

  • Cut a length of beading wire that measures 6 inches long.Form a loop at one end of the jewelry wire with the needle-nose pliers. Before completely closing the loop, slip the charm into the loop. This is the base for the strand of beads.
  • Assemble the beads. Slip a medium bead onto the same wire as the charm, followed by a spacer bead. Add the remaining beads in the same order.
  • Cut the excess wire, but leave enough to form a loop at the end. Use the needle-nose pliers to form a loop at the top of the wire holding the beads. Before closing the loop all the way, slip the end of the safety pin (the side opposite of the clasp) into the loop.
  • Cut the shank from the button using a wire cutter. Use hot glue to attach the button to the front of the pin, where the clasp is located.
  • Strand the seed beads onto thread. Strand enough beads so you are able to outline the button with them.
  • Carefully use the hot glue gun to affix the strand of beads along the outside of the button.
  • Strand another set of beads. Make it long enough to go around the button and the first strand of beads.
  • Carefully use the hot glue gun to affix the second strand of beads along the outside of the first set of seed beads.

Tips & Warnings

  • According to the WigJig jewelry-making site, you can affix the button to the safety pin with double-sided craft tape.
  • Use caution when working with a hot glue gun. The tip of the gun and the melted glue are hot.
