Rubik's Cube Puzzle Games:

  • The Rubik's Cube has proved to be a difficult mental puzzle for even the most intelligent people. It is a six-sided, hand-held cube, consisting of many smaller cubes of different colors. A pivot device allows each face of the cube to move independently. The object of the puzzle is to move the faces of the cube so that each side is left with a single color. Although many people still enjoy the challenge of solving a Rubik's Cube the traditional way, the cube's popularity has spawned several online Rubik's-related games as well as a new hand-held version

Light Speed

  • The object of this game is to shut off the lights on each cube before the time runs out and you lose. One box at a time will light up and you must press it as fast as possible. The computer will recognize your speed and will make it increasingly difficult for you to press the correct box as the game goes on

Clock

  • This game presents 18 clock faces--nine on each side of the two-sided puzzle--that you must turn to 12 o'clock in the fewest amount of moves. One hand on each clock starts in a random position and you can press the arrows at each corner of the puzzle to move the clock hands in different directions. Press the four yellow pegs to prevent the various clock hands from moving. Once you have finished one side, press the "Flip clock" button to turn the puzzle over and solve the other side. There is no time limit, but the fewer moves it takes, the better your score

Flat Surface

  • The idea of this game is to view a Rubik's Cube as if it were flat so as to test your spatial-orientation ability and pattern recognition. The object is the same as a conventional Rubik's Cube: to maneuver the cube so that all of the surfaces are a distinct color. The game presents nine options--each one is a button--for moving a cube. When you position your mouse over a button, you can see how the puzzle will change, then you can click the button if you want to make the move

Rush

  • "Rush" is a 3D puzzle game. The object is to direct different cubes toward color-coded exits using items such as warps and conveyor belts that are available in the 70-plus levels. The game also contains the original Rubik's Cube puzzle, which you can attempt to solve alone or against another player

Puzzle World

  • Another Rubik's-inspired game is "Rubik's World." The game presents eight Rubik's-type puzzles that can be solved alone or with family and friends by using the multiplayer function

Rubik's 360

  • The "Rubik's 360" is much like the original Rubik's Cube, in that it is a hand-held game instead of a video game. It consists of one clear sphere inside a larger clear sphere, inside yet a larger one. You must get colored balls from the inner sphere into matching compartments on the outer sphere by shaking them through the middle sphere, which has only two holes. This game is available through the Rubik's website

How to Properly Hold a Rubik's Cube:

  • Determine the name of each particular side of the Rubik's Cube. They are up, down, front, left, right and back
  • Hold the Rubik's Cube in your left hand if you are right-handed, or in your right hand if you are left-handed. Choose a side of your cube as the top, or the "up" side, and keep it in that position as you attempt to solve the puzzle. The key is to keep the center square of the "up" side stationary as you try to solve the puzzle
  • Keep the cube upright. Only rotate the sides of the cube toward you, to get the formation you want. By not moving the top, you are able to keep track of how each side changes with each move
  • Study the particular arrangement of your Rubik's Cube. Holding it upright, note the patterns on the right, left, front, back and down sides of the cube
  • Learn different algorithms to solve the puzzle. Practice some of them, holding the cube as discussed in steps 1 through 4. Move the cube as necessary, remembering to name the sides according to the orientation in relation to the holder
