How to Hook Up a Nintendo System to Your TV:

  • Position the Nintendo system within 2 feet of the television
  • Examine the back of the television to find the RCA style female inputs. You will know them by their yellow, red and white colored inner collars. Note the label on this input, which will be something like "Video 1" or "Aux"
  • Plug the Nintendo connection cable, which came with your system, into the back of the Nintendo unit. This cable should have a larger, square shaped plug at one end, and the RCA style male connectors at the other end
  • Plug the RCA end of the connection cable into the corresponding inputs on the television, making sure to plug yellow to yellow, red to red and white to white
  • Plug the Nintendo's power cord into the Nintendo and then into the wall outlet or power strip. It is best to have all your electronics plugged into surge-protected power strips to prevent damage from the occasional voltage spike. Once it is plugged in, turn on your Nintendo
  • Refer to the television's specific owner's manual for information on how to tune to the input where you connected the Nintendo. Then turn on the TV and tune to that input

How to Speed Up a Cable Connection:

  • Upgrade your browser. If you are still running Internet Explorer 6, every page you view is downloaded file-by-file in a sequential manner, taking more time to load the page. See the Internet Explorer download page listed in the Resources section below
  • Check your router configuration. Your router's settings can improve or impair your router's connection speed. There is a myriad of different routers on the market and each has its own way of managing settings. Consult your router's manual or check out the manufacturer's website for further information
  • Install a WEP password on your wireless network. Without password protection, it's possible for neighbors to leech off your wireless network, slowing down your connection speed. Consult your router's manual for instructions on how to set up a WEP password
  • Close unused applications. Applications which require internet access such as MSN Messenger, Skype and Windows Update can use up valuable bandwidth, slowing your connection speed. Right click on the Task Bar and select "Task Manager" to view a list of all the applications which are currently running. Select the ones you are not currently using and click "End Task"
  • Upgrade your router. If you are using a router that came from your Internet service provider as part of an installation package, you could benefit from purchasing a higher quality one with a stronger wireless signal. Even if you don't use wi-fi, higher quality routers can have additional functions which can optimize your cable connection, such as individual port selection
  • Connect directly. If you are currently using wi-fi, try plugging your computer directly into the modem using an ethernet cable. You may see an improvement in your connection speed
  • Relocate your router. The fewer physical obstacles between your computer and the router, the better your connection will be. Ideally the router should be inside the same room as your computer
  • Use shorter cables. The cable signal has to travel from the socket, to the modem, to the router, to your computer, with a number of cables in between. Invest in good quality cables and try to keep these connections as physically short as possible. You may need to relocate a number of these components in order to shorten the cables and see an improvement in your connection speed
