Test a Power Adapter - Examine your power adapter. Every power adapter will have the input voltage and amperage requirements printed on it, as well as the output voltage and amperage rating. We'll be testing the output of the power adapter, so write down the specs. An example would be this, taken from a laptop power adapter: Output - 19.5V....3.34 amps. We'll measure the output of the power adapter with a multimeter --a very handy tool for anyone working with electronics. A multimeter can measure voltage, current, power output and resistance of electrical circuits by touching the electrical circuits or device with a set of probes. See Additional Resources for a good tutorial on multimeters
- Set your multimeter to the proper range for measuring the output of your power adapter. Take into account the voltage and the amperage you'll be measuring. Consult the manual for specifics on how to set your particular model of multimeter
- Check the data plate of your power adapter to find out which portion of the plug is positive and which is negative. For example, on some power adapter plugs, the outer shell of the plug is positive, while on others it's negative
- Touch the probes of your multimeter to the corresponding portions of the power adapter's plug and note the readout. Compare that with the rated output of the power adapter. If it varies significantly, replace the power adapter
How to Play Music On Your Nintendo DSi
The Nintendo DSi is the ultimate version of the Nintendo DS handheld console generation (which has since been succeeded by the Nintendo 3DS) and includes several features that upgraded it from its predecessor, the DS Lite. These include a new virtual marketplace application, a camera utility and a digital music playback feature. Getting music on your DSi and playing it back is an intuitive process and it's great for those who want to use their DSi for more than just playing games - Connect the SD memory card that came with your DSi to your computer where you keep your digital music with either an adapter or an on-board card reader
- Browse your computer for music files and then drag them into the SD card window. Do not disturb any files on the SD card, as these may interfere with your game save or formatting data. Note: The DSi can only play back M4A files. If you have music stored in another format, you will need to convert it using a free program such as iTunes or Format Factory before you can listen to it on the DSi
- Plug your SD card back in to your DSi. The SD card slot is on the left side of the console and you will need to pull back the door in order to expose the SD card slot. Once exposed, gently press the SD card into place (gold data prongs down) until it clicks. Then close the door and turn on the DSi unit
- Select the "DSi Sound" application from the menu with the stylus and then select "Play Music from SD card." Browse the SD card's contents until you find your music files
- Highlight the song file you want to play and then click on the "Start" button. The music will start playing automatically. To stop music playback, simply press the "Stop" button or exit the DSi Sound application
