How to Use a Guitar Hero Controller on a Computer

• Figure out which console the Guitar Hero Controller you have is for, a Playstation 2, Playstation 3, or Xbox 360 guitar. Playstation 3 guitars require the least effort and knowledge to get working because the guitar literally needs to be plugged into a USB port and that's it. The Playstation 2 Guitar Hero controllers cannot be connected to a USB port.
• Buy the necessary materials. The PS3 or wired Xbox 360 guitars do not need any more hardware purchased to play them on a computer. However, if you have a Playstation 2 Guitar Hero Controller and want to play it on a computer, you will need to buy a $20 PS2 to USB adapter. The wireless Xbox 360 guitar needs the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver which costs $20.
• Download necessary drivers. The Xbox 360 Guitar Hero controllers need drivers downloaded and installed to work properly. See the links below to download them for 32 bit and 64 bit. The Playstation 2 and 3 guitars do not need any additional software.
