How to Make a Motion Activated Led Light:
Motion sensors can be designed using a variety of methods, the simplest being the use of infrared (IR) or ultrasonic components. Infrared sensors detect heat changes in the near environment such as body heat from a person, while ultrasonic sensors send out sound waves which bounce and return quicker to the sensor when a new object appears in the area. They are an efficient way to save electricity but are also beneficial for security lighting outside a home or workplace. Although you can purchase motion sensing equipment, you can create your own with a few basic materials purchased at your electronics store - Connect the 741 operation amplifier to the center of the breadboard
- Place the 2 CDS cells on the breadboard. Connect one pin from the first CDS cell to the No. 2 node in the op amp and the second pin in the No. 7 node
- Connect one pin from the second CDS cell to the No.2 node of the op amp and the second pin in the No. 4 node of the op amp
- Connect the center pin of the potentiometer to the No. 3 node in the op amp. Connect the right pin to node No. 7 and the left pin to node No. 4
- Connect the negative side of the battery to the No. 4 node on the op amp
- LED bulb. The negative lead is longer then the positive one

- Attach the positive lead of the LED bulb to the 1K ohm resistor and connect the other end of the ohm resistor to node No. 7 of the op amp
- Connect the positive terminal on the battery to the No. 7 node on the op amp
How to Set a Motion Sensor Light:
Motion sensor lights are floodlights that turn on when an object moves across the sensor's field of "vision." These lights illuminate your walkway when you come home at night and notify you when something or someone is on your property. The mere act of a light turning on deters break-ins and vandalism, and frightens away unwanted animals from your yard. False activations, however, can be distracting. Correctly adjusting the sensitivity range of the sensor can drastically reduce this occurrence - Stand far enough away from the sensor so it does not turn on. Walk toward the sensor until the light activates to determine its range and direction
- Tilt and twist the face of the sensor slightly to adjust the direction of its path, if needed. A small adjustment can drastically change the path of the sensor
- Locate the dial on the bottom of the motion sensor with a flashlight
- Turn the dial 1/2 inch. Depending on the dial's design, you may need to insert a screwdriver to more easily adjust the dial
- Stand back from the sensor and walk toward it until the light activates. Continue adjusting and testing the sensor until the light activates at the desired distance
