How to Connect a Microphone to a Computer:
Connecting a microphone to your computer is a very easy task, and useful for a lot of tasks. This deals with 1/8" TRS jacks, see the tips section for XLR and 1/4" TRS jacks. Things You'll Need: - A microphone to connect to your computer
- A computer with a sound card or chip
- A converter if you have an XLR or 1/4" TRS jack
Steps: - Locate the microphone port on your computer. Usually, it will be colored pink, and have a microphone image over it
- Test your new microphone with a sound recorder of your choice. On Windows, you can use the Sound Recorder, on a Mac, GarageBand should do fine
- If your microphone appears to not be working, check your system settings, and make sure that your speakers aren't turned off
Tips: - Be sure that you connected your mic before testing/configuring it
- If you are hearing your voice too quiet try increasing the volume of your microphone
- Sound Recorder on a Windows computer can be found by typing sndrec32 into the Run dialog box
- GarageBand on a Mac computer can be found either in the Dock, or in /Applications. If not installed, it is on your Additional Installs disc, sometimes labeled simply Disc 2
- If you have a professional microphone with a larger port, you will need a converter. These can be bought at most electronics and music stores
Warnings: Do not connect your microphone to other ports instead of the appropriate pink-colored one. Doing so could damage the microphone or the port Package Included:
