Sony PSP Tips

  • On May 13, 2003, Sony unveiled its portable gaming device at E3, the annual gaming conference, held in Los Angeles, California. This marked Sony's decision to face off against Nintendo, which was the dominant player in the hand-held gaming market at the time. The Sony PSP offered more memory, wireless connection, movie and music playing capability and 480-by-272-pixel resolution. You can find many tricks and tips to use all of the PSP's capabilities.
  • Online
  • If your PSP is running with system software version 2.0., you can connect to the Internet to surf the web and play games online. Simply go to "Settings" and select "Network Settings." Press the "X" button. Select "Infrastructure Mode" and press the "X" button. Highlight "New Connection" and press the "X" button. Next "Scan for WLAN Settings." Select the "Access Point" you want to use. Select "Security" and type in the network password. If you're having trouble connecting, make sure the network can connect to the Internet, by trying to connect online from your personal computer. Make sure the PSP is within wireless range. And check to make sure the "WLAN" switch is turned on. It's located at the top of the PSP.
  • Battery
  • Before using the PSP for the first time, slide the battery cover in the direction of the arrow and insert the battery pack. Attach the AC adapter and plug it into an electrical outlet. Do not use the AC adapter when the battery pack is not inserted into the PSP. And do not plug the AC adapter into the electrical outlet until after you've made the other connections. Battery capacity decreases over use, so it's important to keep track of diminishing capacity. Turn off when not using, and use Sleep Mode to help protect the battery's life.
  • Memory
  • Don't waste money on unnecessary memory. Figure out how much memory you actually need. If you want to store hundreds of pictures and songs on your PSP, you'll need larger memory sticks, but if you use it only for games and some online use, the more expensive memory sticks won't be worth it. Also purchase memory sticks from reputable companies. To be sure the memory stick is compatible, it is recommended to use licensed Sony products.
  • Dust
  • Just like computers, Sony PSPs can be damaged from dust that gets into the processor, which can heat up the device. Keep the PSP in a protective case when not being used. A compressed air dust cleaner can also be used to dislodge trapped dust. But do not take apart the PSP, simply spray the nozzle onto the PSP.
  • Upgrades
  • Make sure the AC adapter is plugged in before doing any firmware upgrades, which will ensure your PSP keeps a charge while completing all firmware upgrades. If the PSP loses its charge, it can be damaged permanently.
