"CHICO'S PARADISE" Auctions Auction is for a Hand-crafted, NATIVE AMERICAN BAG, from a CANADIAN TRIBE - [ OJIBWA ] CANADIAN BAND - [ CHIPPEWAS OF GEORGINA ]. This BAG / PURSE / HANDBAG / POCKETBOOK, is an unusual item. Perhaps it was even intended for some tribal ritual, or for use as a Medicine Bag? Fashioned of Buckskin Leather and Rabbit Fur, this beautiful BAG, appears to have been crafted to resemble an Animal. If you look closely, the outline of a creature begins to emerge. It appears, to us, to resemble a BABY HARP SEAL. If you don't believe us, take a look at the photos, side-by-side. We have included a snap of a Harp Seal Pup, for comparison. Indeed, these beautiful babes, are white, at that immature age. Of course, it's easier to spot, when the Bag is laid out, fully opened. However, when being worn, with the flap closed, the face is still clearly evident. Decorated by Traditional Beading, the Beadwork that is in place, resembles the eyes and nose. We have provided photos of the round eyes and the triangular nose. Underneath the nose, the buckskin has been fringed, to represent whiskers. An absolutely beautiful representation of one of Canada's most beautiful wilderness babies! This Bag is in New, as in unused condition. The Bag part, itself, measures approximately 8 inches across and 7 inches high, when closed. Measuring from the top of the shoulder strap, to the bottom of the Bag, it's about 24 inches, in length. The Rabbit Fur, covers the Bag completely and goes part-way up the shoulder strap [see photos]. If you are trendy, or into the great outdoors, this bag could easily be used as an Unisex item. This area has territory comprising a large, Native Reserve - home to a substantial Aboriginal Community - the Chippewas of Georgina. They are members of the Ojibwa Tribe. It may be presumptuous, but we are assuming that this lovely, hand-tooled work, likely originated from within that community.
