Intel RAID Premium Feature Key AXXRPFKDE enables Full Disk Encryption feature and is the same feature that in incorporated into the RS2BL080DE sku. This feature enables the Intel RAID Controller to provide data security protection support for Self Encrypting Drive (SED), such as the Seagate Secure drive technology. The premium feature key allows this technology to be enabled on any supported controller without the need for a special key. Detail: This feature allows the RAID FW to manage the hard drive encryption keys and passwords required by Self Encrypting Drives. Without this feature enabled, the drives perform the encryption but will also decrypt automatically allowing anyone that can connect to the drive to read the data on it. With encryption support enabled via the feature key, the user is prompted for an encryption key when setting up the virtual drive, and a power on password. The controller will manage the key and password during power on, prompting for a user password while the key is provided automatically be the controller to the hard drive. If a drive is stolen or moved to another controller, data cannot be read without providing the encryption key. A drive can be rendered unreadable by erasing the encryption key located on the drive.
