This museum quality Antique landscape you are about to bid on is an original 1881 oil on canvas by the extremely talented, critically acclaimed, and LISTED American artist George F. Fuller (1822-1884). Inspired by Corot and the French Barbizon painters, Fuller found great success creating moody figural works and landscapes in brown tones, with textured, painterly surfaces. Landscapes, like this one in particular, won him great acclaim in his time, and have since been exhibited throughout the United States. Deriving its visual appeal from a reliance on longstanding landscape practices and late-eighteenth-century British aesthetic theories of the Sublime and the Picturesque, this image, both in technique and style, stands out amongst its contemporaries. Fuller carefully balanced the composition, dividing the image in half and combining a mixture of rough and smooth contours to create a visually dynamic yet highly accessible painting. Its horizontal format and low vantage point accentuate the depth of the rocky precipices. The threatening clouds over the mountains add further tension to this otherwise placid composition, emphasizing the awe-inspiring, sometimes destructive, forces of nature.Unique and dynamic, this fantastic work would be the perfect acquisition for any fan of the genre and we're proud to offer it in eBay Auction! Don't miss the opportunity to add this rare and charming painting to your collection today!

The image is signed & dated (1881) in the lower left. It measures 18" x 30" and 29" x 41" in its original gorgeous gold frame that perfectly complements the artwork, provided free of charge to our clients. Condition report: There are 2 old patches on the back....Can't see anything from the front where they are, so the repair was professional, and one small spot in center sky, where a touch up may have been done, no patch, otherwise the painting is in very good shape with minor wear. The fabulous original museum frame is in great shape with minor wear and tear as well. (Because our frames are always complimentary, we are not responsible for their condition, only for the condition of the artwork).

The artist's work is a solid investment. Here is just one of his auction records (source: Artprice.com):

Comments: After his first solo exhibition in Boston in 1875, he won acclaim for his moody and nostalgic portraits and figures-in-landscape, inspired by Corot and the French Barbizon painters. He first took up painting in 1841, after accompanying his deaf-mute younger half-brother, Augustus Fuller (see entry), on a painting tour through western New York. George returned to Boston in 1842 and worked there for six years (sharing a portrait studio with his cousin Jonas Holland Howe for some of those years). From 1847-59, he studied in NYC and painted portraits in Philadelphia and some southern cities (Montgomery and Mobile, AL). In 1860 he went to Europe for six months where he met many of the masters and studied with them. On his return in 1861, he took over the family farm at Deerfield and for fifteen years, concentrated on farming, although he is known to have painted the surrounding landscape. In 1875, he resumed his professional artistic career when his Boston show found great success. He contnued to produce moody figural works and landscapes in brown tones, with textured, painterly surfaces. His sons, Spencer and Henry B. were also artists.
