This striking French street scene you are about to bid on is an original 1970s mixed media on heavy paper by the talented and LISTED French/Corsican artist, Charles Levier (1920-2004). Two elegant, slim and idealistic French women stand in the foreground, one holding a large bouquet of flowers whilst a quiet street stretches behind them. The oranges and blues in the flowers create a sense of warmth enhanced by the brightness of the luminosity in the street and in the women's faces. Drawn in the characteristic style of Levier, the two figures are simply but effectively drawn, with thin lines used to describe the facial features; repeated linear work also creates patterns in their clothing and in the cobbled streets, adding expressionism to this unique piece. This portrayal of powerful females would be an excellent addition to any collection, so don't miss the opportunity to buy this beautiful work of art at a wonderful eBay price!

The image is signed by the artist in the lower right. It measures 19" x 29" and 30" x 40"  in a custom-made gallery frame that  perfectly complements the work, provided free of charge to our eBay clients. Condition report: The artwork is in great condition. The frame is also in great condition (Because our frames are complimentary, we are not responsible for their condition, only the condition of the artwork).

This work has amazing investment potential. Below is just one of the artist's auction records (Askart.com):

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Charles Levier was born in 1920 of a French father and American mother in Corsica. He held a fascination with color and form that led him, at age seventeen, to the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs for private studies. World War II came along and Levier served in the French Army in North Africa, later becoming Liaison Officer with the U.S. Office of Strategic Services.

Coming to America to live, he divided his time between the USA and France, preparing for his first one-man show, which took place at the Galerie Constantine, in Lyons in 1949, followed by an American debut in Los Angeles in 1950. The year 1955 found him exhibiting at the Galleries de Colisee in Paris and then returning to America where an old friend, Dr. Lilienfeld of Van-Diemen, Lilienfeld Gallery in New York City began to present his paintings.

For over thirty years Levier has enjoyed an important position with countless exhibitions around the world. His paintings are found in countless private and public collections. Among those who are collectors are Mr. And Mrs. Peter Lawford, Frank Sinatra, Adlai Stevenson, Baron Edmond de Rothschild, Prince and Princess Poniatoski, Mrs. Dan Topping, Mr. And Mrs. Dean Martin and many others.

He is represented in the Museum of Modern Art in Paris and the Menton Museum in Paris. In the USA, his work can be found in the permanent collection of the Atlanta Museum, the Seattle Museum, the Evansville Museum, the New Orleans Museum and the San Diego Museum. Charles Levier died on September 3rd of 2004.
