This Modernist Ballerina portrait you are about to bid on is the LAST LIMITED EDITION original Lithograph by the highly talented and contemporary LISTED American artist Douglas Hoffman (20th century). Hand pulled, this Lithograph is a fine example of Hofman's best work, showcasing his ability to realistically capture a woman in natural beauty and mundane elegance. Propping up her leg on a radiator to tie her ballerina shoes, the young woman's body gracefully leans over as she sits, captured in direct sunlight. The white dress she wears puffs around her and her hair is tied back in a bun in this stereotypical representation of a ballerina. Soft cream colored walls surround her and create a sense of calm as she prepares for a show or rehearsal; her beauty and youth radiate in this voyeuristic, intimately caught scene. Beautifully composed and with a pastel color palette, this serene image would make an amazing addition to any collection.

We are proud to offer this amazing artwork as Buy Now/Best Offer!

The image is pencil signed by the artist in the lower right. It is edition numbered (40/250) in the lower left. There is a remarque in the lower right, which increases the value of this lithograph.

It measures 24" x 26" and 32" x 34" in a beautiful custom made gallery frame, provided free of charge to our eBuyers.  Condition report: The piece is in great condition. The frame is in great condition as well (because the frame is complimentary, we are not responsible for its condition, only that of the artwork).

Remarque:
is a small, personalized drawing or symbol that an artist adds (near his or her signature) on a print. The presence of a remarque increases the print's value.

Originally, remarques were remarks made, in pencil, that identified the various stages a printing plate went through while in the process of being finalized. Whistler seems to have pioneered making remarques desirable to collectors, particularly in the case of his "butterfly" mark.

Nowadays, a remarque is primarily a "value-added" option for print collectors - meaning: You can have an artist's remarque added to your graphic edition, if you care to shell out some more money.

This artwork has great investment potential. Look at one of his auction records (http://www.herndonfineart.com/hofmann.html):

About the Artist:

The paintings of Douglas Hofmann have been critically acclaimed for their glowing surfaces, detail and softly lighted forms.  Hofmann expertly combines his own methods of painting with the techniques of the old masters which he learned from Joseph Sheppard at the Maryland Institute College of Art, where he received his bachelor of fine arts degree.  The beautiful aura of light and atmosphere found in great Baroque paintings pervades the works of Hofmann. He gives meticulous attention to detail, and creates harmonious compositions with superbly balanced colors and shapes.

Hofmann was born in Baltimore Maryland in 1945.  He has received numerous awards for his works, including first prize at the Peale Museum in Baltimore, 1970; "Best Paintings in the Traditional Manner," at the Baltimore Museum, 1971, "Best in Show" at the Washington County Museum, Hagerstown, Md., 1972; "Best in Show," at the Center Club in Baltimore, 1973 and 1978. In 1988 he was awarded a Certificate of Merit for his painting "The Secret" by the
Salmagundi Club at its Eleventh Annual Nonmembers Juried Exhibition.

Hofmann's works have been exhibited in numerous group and one-man shows at prestigious galleries and museums, in every major city in U.S.A. and Japan.
