While most chefs use a spatula to squeeze out fat from burgers and other
meats, the process is a bit unwieldy and not always effective. Enter
this grill press from Lodge, which features a heavy-duty cast-iron base
that efficiently flattens your meats while on the grill or burner. The
press offers a perfect way to drain fat from beef, eliminate curl from
bacon and ham strips, and hold heat within grilled-cheese and panini
sandwiches. As with all Lodge Logic items, the press is preseasoned
through a proprietary "electrostatic" vegetable oil spray system. The
preseasoning process readies the press for cooking right out of the box,
making it far more convenient than old-style cast-iron items that
required seasoning before use. The cast-iron base is not only heavy, but
also attractive thanks to its unique hammered finish. In addition,
chefs will find it easy to wield due to the "cool grip" spiral handle.
The press measures 6-3/4 by 4-1/2 inches, so it'll work on most outdoor
grills and in many indoor skillets. Lodge recommends hand washing the
press with a stiff brush and hot water for best results. It also carries
