Giant Bird of Paradise 'Strelitza nicolai' Plant X 1 Large, clumping evergreen with huge leaves on stalks. Exotic white and blue flowers resembling tropical birds. Provides a lush tropical effect in the landscape. Useful near pools or patios or in container in bright room. Used as an interior plant, it will perform very well in most situations where light is adequate. It is very hardy in many positions. The large dramatic leaves give a tropical effect wherever it is used. The huge flowers can be used as a base for dramatic tropical effect in floral arrangements. The magnificent white and blue flowers are dramatic and eyecatching.   As a garden plant, plenty of space is important as it will grow into small tree proportions growing up to 10m in height and 5m in width.   If planted in a garden good mulching is needed. Some shelter from wind is also need to minimise shredding of leaves.  This plant can do well indoors but will also grow very well in a large container even in exposed positions on patios or balconies.  Regular watering and application of slow release fertiliser twice a year in Spring and late Summer is beneficial.
